Purpose of the Project:
Everyday, people are overwhelmed by the negative bent of news programs, press releases, and statements from Federal officials. Collective Story was created to give people a chance to turn these scare tactics into humor. By defusing the issue with a healthy dose of comic relief participants may be able to look at the content of these official statements from a new perspective. It is not the statement that inspires fear and dread in the public, it is the choice of words, the careful juxtaposition of text that creates the mood of the document. Changing contextual words allows participants to change their fear into fun. All of the collective stories are fictitious but they are closely modeled after real news reports, security alerts, and speeches given by Federal officials.
